Diwali celebrations in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 9: The markets of Manipur were packed with people buying gifts for Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba celebrations.

The Diwali celebrations are done today and the shops and the houses were decorated with colourful lights.

One of the biggest festival of Manipur, the Ningol Chakkouba in which all married women go to their parental houses will be celebrated on Monday next and people have started buying gifts for their families and daughters.

The government has announced that it will organise a fish mela at the main markets of Imphal so that people can buy fish for the festivals. Prizes will also be given for the fish sellers, the fishery department said.

The transport department has announced that to ensure safety and convenience of the public as well as to facilitate easy movement of vehicles and pedestrians in and around Khwairamband Keithel, Imphal the main market areas traffic regulations have been imposed with effect from November 9 to 12 in the said areas.
