Wienerberger to build block plant in India

Austria's
Wienerberger,
the
world's
largest
brickmaker,
will
build
a
hollow
block
plant
near
Bangalore,
southern
India,
investing
around
26
million
euros
($38
million)
in
its
first
foray
into
the
subcontinent,
it
said
on
Thursday.
The first phase of the project will support annual production of about 60 million bricks, a capacity which will double eventually, Wienerberger said in a statement. The plant is part of its investment programme.
''Our goal is to establish a relevant market position in southern India over the mid-term, with a number of plants and a broad-based presence,'' said Wienerberger board member Heimo Scheuch in the statement.
