Wienerberger to build block plant in India
Vienna, Nov 8: Austria's Wienerberger, the world's largest brickmaker, will build a hollow block plant near Bangalore, southern India, investing around 26 million euros ($38 million) in its first foray into the subcontinent, it said on Thursday.
The first phase of the project will support annual production of about 60 million bricks, a capacity which will double eventually, Wienerberger said in a statement. The plant is part of its investment programme.
''Our goal is to establish a relevant market position in southern India over the mid-term, with a number of plants and a broad-based presence,'' said Wienerberger board member Heimo Scheuch in the statement.
