Canal breach inundates houses in Punjab village
Bathinda, Nov 8 (UNI) The army was called out as a 20-feet breach in the Sirhand canal branch inundated the low lying areas in Behman village on the outskirts of the town this morning.
According to official sources water entered about 400 houses in the village. However no loss of life was reported.
The district administration and irrigation department officials assisted by the administration pulled out a number of residents from their houses to safer areas. Efforts are being made to plug the breach and officials are hopeful of plugging it by the evening.
The irrigation officials have informed the Bhakra Beas Management Authorities (BBMB) and the discharge of water into the canal has been stopped.
