Alappuzha, Nov 8 (UNI) The Frontal organisations of CPI and CPI(M) clashed even as Kerala Industries Department handed over 16 acres of the closed public sector 'Scooters Kerala' to state Cooperative Department here today.

The activists of All India Students Federation (AISF), a frontal organisation of the CPI and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), youth wing of the CPI(M), clashed as the former protested against handing over of the land to the Cooperative Department.

A section of the AISF workers were arrested while they tried to storm the stage put up at the factory compound, where State Co-operative Minister G Sudhakaran received the documents from state Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem.

The co-operative department was to set up a self-financing engineering college and a business school in the land.

AITUC District President S Karunakara Kurup and Secretary and former MP T J Anjalose said utilising the land of a public sector for some other purpose was totally against the declared industrial policy of the LDF government.

Though the production of scooters was stopped, the company was producing furniture for government offices. The government could have revived the company rather than handing over the land to some other department, they said.

The AITUC would launch an agitation to protest against the government decision to hand over the land, they added.
