Two killed and ten injured in mine explosion and political clash

Kolkata/Nandigram, Nov 6 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and ten others, including a para military force jawan, were seriously injured as rival parties clashed and landmines exploded in an escalated violence in Nandigram today.

Expressing concern over the siutation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to look into it while giving a fresh call for agitation, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee demanded invocation of Article 355 in the West Bengal.

Official reports said those killed were victims of landmine explosion.

Confirming the toll, Home Secretary P R Ray said an EFR jawan was among the injured.

" Some places in Nandigram now resemble a battle field. EFR jawans have taken control of Tekhali bridge on the border of Nandigram and Khejuri, " he said.

Meanwhile, in a letter to Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee, the Prime Minister expressed his concern at the Nandigram situation. " I have asked the Home Minister to look into it urgently, " he said.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi at the Raj Bhavan in the evening, told reporters that she had demanded imposition of Article 355 in the state for the 'lawlessness'.

" Our demand is nothing short of resignation of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. He is fully responsible for the situation.

My party will go for an allout movement from tonight demanding ouster of this Government, " she told reporters.
