TDP takes out rally, demanding MSP for paddy, cane

Vijayawada, Nov 6 (UNI) About 1,500 people, including Telugu Desam Party leaders, activists and farmers, some of them in bullock carts took out a rally here today.

They demanded that the Central and the Andhra Pradesh governments should immediately enhance the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy to Rs 1,000 per quintal on par with wheat and sugarcane to Rs 1,500 per tonne.

Leaders of the Krishna district TDP, addressing the protesters, after the rally culminated at the Hanuman Junction, alleged that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Ministers and MPs from the state had miserably failed to render justice to the paddy growers by not mounting pressure on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Later, the TDP activists burnt an effigy of Chief Minister protesting against the Centre's apathy on the issue.
