Paddy procurement crosses 120 lakh tonnes mark in Punjab

Chandigarh, Nov 5 (UNI) Government agencies and private millers procured more than 120 lakh tonnes of paddy in Punjab till last evening.

According to an official spokesman, out of the total procurement of 120.68 lakh tonnes of Paddy in all the procurement centres of the state, government agencies had procured 97.84 lakh tonnes of paddy, which was 82.1 per cent of the total procurement while the rest was procured by the millers.

Among the state government agencies Pungrain had procured 25.31 lakh tonnes (25.5%) whereas Markfed procured 23.38 lakh tonnes (23.6%). Punsup procured 25.14 lakh tonnes (25.4%), PSWC procured 13.16 lakh tonnes (13.3%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 10.83 lakh tonnes (10.9 %) of paddy. The Central government agency FCI procured 1.28 lakh tonnes (1.3%).

The spokesman said that Ludhiana district with 16.02 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur district with 14.99 lakh tonnes of procurement was at second slot and Patiala district with 12.63 lakh tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
