House Committee proposed Rs 1000 crore budgetary provision

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 (UNI) The House Committee on railways today decided to give a proposal to the Union Government for making a budgetary provision of around Rs 1000 crore in 2008-09 for implementation of various railway projects in Orissa.

A meeting of the committee, held under the Chairmanship of Speaker Maheswar Mohanty, decided to submit memoranda to the Prime Minister and Railway Minister in this regard for the development and expansion and extension of railway lines in the state.

The meeting resolved to call on the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister is sometimes between November 10 to 17.

The proposals included Rs 500 crore for the completion of Haridaspur-Paradip, Lanjigarha road-Junagarha, Khurdaroad-Bolangir, Anugul-Duburi-Sukinda road, Talcher-Bimalagarha and Daitari-Banpani railway projects and Rs 350 crore for double-laning of 17 projects.

The Committee decided to request the Union Government to increase the frequency of some trains and for gauge conversion of some railway lines.

The House Committee had also decided to give a proposal to make Jharsuguda a new division under the East Coast Railway.
