Diesel pours out on to railway coaches

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 5 (UNI) Tension prevailed for a while at Villupuram railway junction yesterday, when diesel from a fuelling point poured out on to the coaches of the Chennai-Mangalore express train as it was leaving from there after a brief halt.

Railway sources said, due to the negligence of the staff concerned the valve of the diesel pump was not fully closed, after filling diesel locomotive of the train.

Passengers in the four coaches, who smelled diesel, pulled the alarm chain and the train was stopped. The railway officials asked the passengers in the coaches to get down and those coaches were cleaned.

As the diesel smell prevailed, the authorities replaced the four coaches and allowed the train to continue its journey.

The fuelling clerk Shanmugam and another employee Kandavel were suspended in this connection, besides a departmental enquiry, sources added.
