K'tara Lok Ayukta raids houses of 13 govt officials
Bangalore, Nov 3 (UNI) Karnataka Lok Ayukta today conducted simultaneous raids on the houses and properties of 13 State Government officials in Bangalore, Bellary and Bidar.
Talking to mediapersons here, Lok Ayukta Justice Santosh Hegde said the raids, conducted under the Prevention of Corruption Act, were still on.
Additional Director General of Police (Lok Ayukta) Rup Kumar Datta said the raids were conducted at the houses and properties of three Motor Vehicle Inspectors, one Executive Engineer and seven police officers, including one Superintendent of Police, two Assistant Commissioners, one Deputy Superintendent and one Traffic Inspector.
However, details would be known only after completion of the raids, he added.
Justice Hegde said with the corruption becoming rampant in every department, there was a need to bring in a suitable amendment to the Act as there was provision in the present Act, which provided protection to the officials.
''Under the present Act, even for filing a complaint, we need to follow various procedures and by the time, the accused takes steps to cover it up,'' he added.
