Witness told to demonstrate how SMSes can be contrived

Mumbai, Nov 2 (UNI) Additional Sessions Judge S P Davare, conducting trials in the Pramod Mahajan case, has asked computer expert B Harikrishna, who is deposing as a witness, to demonstrate before him on November 12 how SMSes could be contrived.

The witness had yesterday told the court that the SMSes could be contrived easily using Microsoft Visual Studio.

Defence counsel Harshad Ponda had sought to know from the witness yesterday whether the SMS messages could be tampered with, to which the witness had replied in the affirmative. Today, special public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam urged the court to direct the witness to show a demonstration.

Earlier, Adv Nikam cross-examined the witness. The witness was asked to open the message, ''Ab Yachana Nahin Ran Hoga, Jivan Vijay Ke Saath Ya Maran Hoga'', allegedly sent by accused Pravin Mahajan to Pramod Mahajan on the latter's Motorola mobile phone.

The witness, accordingly, took the mobile phone, which has been seized by the police, opened the message and showed it to the court.
