New Delhi, Nov 2: The Rajya Sabha Privileges Committee today cross-examined Indian ambassador to the US Ronen Sen for his 'headless chickens' remark about critics of the Indo-US nuclear deal.

According to informed sources, during the interrogation Mr Sen reportedly tendered an unqualified apology for his remark in the context of the Indo-US nuclear deal and clarified that it was not made against the MPs and blamed the media for blowing it out of context.

According to Committee sources, the panel is likely to accept his apology and decide that no further action is required.

Mr Sen had reportedly told the Committee that it was not an interview but a conversation over a mobile phone which too was off the record.

This is perhaps for the first time in the history of Indian Parliament that a top diplomat has appeared before lawmakers for making controversial remarks that created a furore in both the houses of Parliament during the monsoon session.
