Pondy: Local bodies threaten to move court

Puducherry, Nov 2: The Confederation of Local Bodies Organisation of Puducherry today threatened to move court, if the government failed to devolve powers to them.

Addressing a press conference here, Confederation President K A Jaganathan said even after one-and-a-half years of local body elections, the administration had failed to devolve powers to elected representatives.

Mr Jaganathan said if the government failed to make an announcement in this regard in the Assembly on November 5, they would move the court.

He said the Confederation would also organise agitations to press their demand.

He charged the Puducherry administration with violating all constitutional norms.

''Though the Chief Minister is willing to consider their demand, the legislators are blocking it, fearing loss of powers,'' he added.
