Haryana played big role in 1957 revolution:Hooda

Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today lauded the significant role played by the people of Haryana in the first war of freedom, 1857.

He said the first spark of the revolution of 1857 was ignited in Ambala and the people of Haryana had shown exemplary courage and given supreme sacrifices for the freedom of the country.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a function organised by Jat Sabha in Kurukshetra where he inaugurated a "Bhandara Bhawan" constructed at a cost of Rs two crore.

Mr Hooda cited several instances of sacrifices made by the people of Haryana for the freedom of the country.

The Chief Minister said he was proud of being amidst the members of such a community which always raised voice against injustice and made sacrifices to maintain the dignity of the nation.

He described the Jat community as secular and said the members of this community had played a vital role not only for the freedom of the country but also to safeguard its unity.

He announced to give Rs 11 lakh out of his discretionary fund and another Rs 10 lakh on behalf of Member Parliament Naveen Jindal.
