Mumbai, Nov 2: With the Supreme Court adjourning the bail plea of Sanjay Dutt till November 20, the cine star will have to spend the Diwali festival in the confines of the Yerawada Central Jail in Pune. This is the second time that the actor will have to stay in jail for the Diwali festival. Dutt, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, was arrested on April 19, 1993 and was incarcerated in the Thane prison for 18 months in two phases before being granted bail.
He not only had to spend Diwali in isolation then but was even unable to visit his ailing wife Richa who died of cancer.
The actor, upon learning that the Apex Court had adjourned his bail plea, was very depressed, according to sources. Dutt was engaged in carpentary work when the Supreme Court decision was communicated to him today, sources said.
When the news was broken to him, he suddenly turned quiet and retired to a corner, sources added. His friend and co-convict Yusuf Nulwala tried to comfort the actor, sources said.
