Congress demands strong punishment against Anant Singh

Patna, Nov 2 (UNI) Bihar Congress president Sadanand Singh today described as a ''grand success'' the Opposition-sponsored 12-hour statewide bandh to protest the assault on scribes by JD(U) MLA Anant Singh.

Adressing a press conference here, Bihar Congress Pressident Sadanand Singh said people, by and large, had supported the bandh against the assault on the fourth estate.

Condemning the incident as a blot on Democracy, Mr Singh said occurrence of such incidents at regular spell was a grim reminder of the fact that if the fourth estate could be attacked, what about the common people.

He also demanded strong punishment for the JD (U) MLA through speedy trial to ensure fair justice.

Asked about the security concern of the mediapersons, he said, '' We also support the demand of security cover for the scribes. '' Reacting to the query on criminalisation of politics, he said every political party must eliminate such elements from their organisation to avoid nexus between the criminals and the politicians.
