TJS George, Anant Nag honoured with Rajyotsava awards
Bangalore, Nov 1 (UNI) The Karnataka government today honoured 51 eminent personalities, with Rajyotsava Awards, which included noted journalist TJS George and actor Anant Nag at a glittering ceremoney as part of the 51st anniversary of formation of the state here tonight.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur and other top officials presented the awards to the persons excelling in different fields. They were given away glittering citations besides medals and cash awards.
The recipients belonged to a varied field and age that included Davangere-based 100-year-old Folk medicine expert Ms Ghaini Lal Singh Jamkar to writer and granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, Sumitra Gandhi Kulkarni.
The other award winners in the respective categories were: Literature: C.N. Ramachandra (Mysore), G. Srinivasa Raju (Chikkaballapur) and M.N. Javariah (Mysore).
Theatre: Lad Saheb Aminghada (Bellary) and Sarojamma P.
Dhuttarigi (Koppal).
Music: Sheshappa Gabbur (Raichur), Basappa H. Bhajantri (Bagalkot) and Gauranga Kodikal (Bangalore).
Dance: Master Vittal Shetty (Mangalore), Gita Datar (Shimoga).
Folk Arts: Savantramma Sabanna Sunnagara (Gulbarga), Honnamma (Bangalore Rural), Syad Sab Ladkhan, Machar Gopala Naik (Dakshina Kannada).
Yakshagana: Seenappa Bhandari (Dakshina Kannada).
Fine Arts: M.R. Balekayi (Dharwad). Sculpture: S.
Shankaranarayanacharya(Kolar).
Cinema: Suresh Urs (now based in Chennai).
Journalism: T.J.S. George (Bangalore), Sarjoo Katkar (Belgaum), Cartoonist Ponnappa (Kodagu) and Abdul Khaliq (Bangalore).
