Punjab in commanding position against unfancied Haryana

Patiala, Nov 1 (UNI) Punjab are in a commanding position against unfancied Haryana in the Inter-State cricket tournament (Under-15) for Polly Umrigar Trophy on the opening day of the three-day tie here today at the Dhruve Pandove Cricket Stadium.

Haryana won the toss and opted to bat first, and were all out for a paltry score of 102 in 57.4 overs. Divender Lohchab with 32 (3 fours) was the only Haryana batsman who played with some confidence.

Aditya Kumar scored 19, and the rest of Haryana batsmen fell cheaply to some penetrative and hostile bowling of Vinay Choudhary, who captured 5 wickets, conceding 23 runs.

Gurkirat Oshan was a perfect foil to Choudhary and bagged 4 wickets, giving away 26 runs.

In reply to Haryana's low total, Punjab are 98 without loss in 47 overs. M Vohra is going great guns with a polished unbeaten 73, while his partner Ankit Parsharthi is 23 not out.
