Magistrate attacked for refusing bail, HC notice to lawyers

Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) A Metropolitan Magistrate was allegedly attacked by two advocates for refusing bail to an accused in a theft case yesterday, even as the Madras High Court directed the lawyers to appear before it on November 29.

A Division Bench of the High Court passed the direction today, when Egmore Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Muruganandam drew the attention of the High Court Registrar, to the incident.

The Bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Ramasubramanian, based on media reports, took on file a complaint against the two advocates and issued notices to them to appear before them on November 29 and give an explanation.

Mr Muruganandam was allegedly attacked by advocates Rajadurai and Elango in his chamber after he refused bail to an accused.
