Local people resolve to protect Bhitarkanika

Kendrapada, Oct 31 (UNI) An awareness meeting, called by the forest officials finally made the local people to make a resolution to protect and safeguard the forest, mangrove covers, the flora and fauna of Bhitarknaika National park.

The villagers of Rangani and Okilapala who attended the awareness meeting held on tuesday decided to take a lead role in protecting the park.

The awareness meeting was organised by the forest officials of Bhitarkanika National Park led by DFO of Rajnagar Forest (Mangrove) and Wildlife Division A K Jena.

The locals had decided to take steps against the poachers and the wood collectors, who very often committed the crime by entering illegally to the forest areas.

As per the resolution adopted in the meeting, fine would be imposed if a person committed a wildlife crime and he would be handed over to police.
