Hooda presents relief cheques to dependents of journalists

Yamunanagar, Nov 1 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today presented relief cheques of Rs two lakh each to the dependents of three press reporters who lost their lives in different fatal accidents.

The cheques were presented at Bijli Utsav Samaroh organised to celebrate Haryana Day.

The beneficiaries included Mrs Sujata Saini, wife of late Mr Sarwan Saini, Mrs Prabha Rajput, wife of late Mr Ashok Rajput and Mrs Surender Rani, wife of late Mr Rajkumar Bawa.

Rajkumar Bawa, a correspondent with Punjab Kesari, died in a criminal attack at his house. His son also had became victim of the attack and could not be saved.

On the directions of Mr Hooda, the Deputy Commissioner had given a relief of Rs one lakh earlier to Mr Bawa's wife and the cheque of Rs one lakh as the remaining amount was given to her by the Chief Minister today.

Ashok Rajput who worked for NDTV, DD, Sahara Samey and Haryana News died on August 24 2007. Sarwan Saini of Punjab Kesari lost his life in an electric shock.

The Chief Minister highlighted the Media policy prepared by the present government and said that free press was considered as the fourth piller of democracy.

Mr Hooda dedicated the first unit of 300 MW capacity of Deen Bandhu Chotu Ram Thermal Power Project to the people of the state on the occasion.
