Four arrested for defrauding mentally challenged person

Fatehabad, Nov 1 (UNI) The police today arrested four persons for fraudulently transferring agriculture land of a mentally unsound person to their names.

The accused also made the wife of the victim to sign at gunpoint, an agreement to sell in their favour for the other portion of land which was in her name.

Sarla Devi, a woman from village Kharaiti Khera, whose daughter Geeta had eloped with a village youth Ram Awtar and later married him, has lodged a complaint with the police allegeing that the accused villagers pretended to help her out of the mess but in fact duped her family of all their agriculture holding.

Sarla Devi said in her complaint that the family had 44 acres of land out of which 11 acres was in the name of her husband Mohinder Singh, a mentally unsound person while the other 33 acres stood in her name.

She alleged that the villagers Rajesh and Rakesh, their father Chanan Singh and two others Hoshiar Singh and Ram Phal managed to get the 11 acres land transferred in their name on October 17, 2007 by taking benefit of the mental condition of her husband. They later allegedly kidnapped Sarla Devi and made her sign an agreement to sell for the other 33 acres of land in their favour on gun point.

The police has registered a case under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 384, 365 and 506 of the IPC and sections 25/54 and 27/59 of the Arms Act against the five accused.

Kaur Singh, a former sarpanch was also booked by the police under section 120-B for helping the accused.

The police today arrested Rajesh, Rakesh, Chanan Singh and Hoshiar Singh and produced them before the Judicial Magistrate Sudeep Goyal.

The court has remanded the accused to a day's police custody.

The other two accused are still absconding.
