BJP demands official language status to Chhattisgarhi
Raipur, Nov 1 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Chhattisgarh today demanded official language status to 'Chhattisgarhi' and said it would send a proposal to the Centre in this regard.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 'Rajyotsav' celebrations, which began here today marking the seventh anniversary of statehood to Chhattisgarh, he said his government would bring an appropriate resolution in the state assembly, demanding to accord official language status to 'Chhattisgarhi'.
Chhattisgarhi is a rich Indo-Aryan language spoken in many parts of Chhattisgarh. It is also spoken in some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Bihar.
According to official records, although linguists consider Chhattisgarhi as a separate language different from that of Hindi, some section consider it as an eastern dialect of Hindi.
