ADC visits ambush site, seeks people's help

Itanagar, Nov 1 (UNI) Tirap Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Habung Donyi yesterday visited Pongchao village in Arunachal's Tirap district to take stock of the situation in the aftermath of the October 25 gruesome ambush in which three Assam Rifles personnel and a civilian contractor were killed.

One of the personnel was a local youth.

In his interaction with the chiefs, gaon burahs (GBs) and people of the area, Donyi urged them to maintain calm and appealed for cooperation with the security forces and the civil administration in restoring peace in the area, informed official sources.

The ADC visited the spot where the ambush took place, about 3 km from Pongchao on the Pongchao-Konsa road, accompanied by circle officer L W Bapu and Assam Rifles' officer commanding Major Nishad.

Major Nishad, who is in-charge of the combing operation here, said the Assam Rifles was maintaining maximum restraint while interrogating the people.

The civil administration and the security forces were working in tandem to nab the culprits with the help of the villagers, the sources added.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000 to the families of the Assam Rifle personnel and Rs 1 lakh to the civilian's family.

Moreover, the Centre has been urged for deployment of additional forces in Tirap and Changlang districts to tackle the situation.
