19 lakh children to get pulse polio dose in Haryana

Chandigarh, Nov 1 (UNI) The Haryana Health Department would cover about 19 lakh children below the age of five years under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign beginning November 4 at high risks areas in nine districts in the state.

The districts to be covered under the campaign would be Ambala, Gurgoan, Faridabad, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Mewat, Sonepat and Yamunanagar, an official spokesman said yesterday.

The Health Department said adequate arrangements had been made for the successful implementation of the campaign as 14,200 teams would be deployed in 7100 booths to go from house-to-house to immunise targeted children in these districts of Haryana.

The functioning of these teams would be closely monitored by about 1400 Supervisors during the campaign. Also, to assess quality coverage, independent monitors would be deployed from Pt B D Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, he added.

He said satisfactory progress had been made in the country as as well as the State as a result of concerted efforts made for improving the quality of Pulse Polio Programme.

During the previous year, about 676 polio cases had been confirmed in the country out of which 548 were from Uttar Pradesh and only 19 cases were from Haryana. This year, a total 255 polio cases had so far been confirmed in the country out of which 201 cases were from Uttar Pradesh and two from Haryana, he added.
