S Swamy raps Karunanidhi for taking credit on airport renaming

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today criticised the attempts of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take credit for the Centre agreeing to rename Madurai airport after Muthramalinga Thevar.

In a statement, Dr Swamy said when Mr Sharad Yadav was the Civil Aviation Minister in the NDA regime, he had sought approval from the Centre to rename the airport as ''Muthuramalinga Thevar International Airport''. However, the then Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam had written to object to the name and hence the issue was kept in the cold storage.

''All Mr Karunanidhi has to do to rename the airport is to withdraw Mr Pannerselvam's objection letter,'' Dr Swamy advised.
