Major chunk of UP supplementary budgetary demands for memorials

Lucknow, Oct 31(UNI) The first supplementary budget of the Mayawati government passed by the state assembly today witnessed major allotment for the projects in the name of Kanshi Ram and Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Over Rs 507 crore, one-fourth of the supplementary budget demands, was sought for the construction, repair and renovation of the memorials, parks and other installation on the name of these leaders.

While Rs 129 crore was sought for the construction of Kanshi Ram Prerna Sthal and Rs 2 crore for Vishramalaya(rest house), Rs 135 crore were demanded for renovation of Ambedkar Smarak.

The Bahujan Samaj Party government has sought Rs 14.40 crore for Smriti Bhawan on the name of Kanshi Ram and another Rs 4 crore to purchase bunglow at Mall Avenue for Vishramalaya. Rs 7.5 crore were demanded for holding birth anniversary Kanshi Ram on March 15 next and Rs 2.50 crore for making of statues and their installation.

A new 33 KVA power sub-station costing around Rs 7 crore would be set up at Ambedkar Smarak.

The government has alloted Rs 25 crore for the development of Rama Bai Ambedkar Maidan and Rs 16 crore for a new Rama Bai park near the Ambedkar Smarak.

For construction of new gates, boundary walls and setting up of statues, Rs 90 crore would be required while another Rs 75 crore has been demanded for Samata Mulka Samaj Sthal at Gomti Nagar.

Supporting the government's demand, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma made it clear in the assembly that government was honouring these people for their sacrifices made to uplift the dowtroddens.
