KC(J) demands action to allay people fear in dam issue
Kottayam, Oct 31 (UNI) Kerala Congress (J) leader and former Irrigation Minister T M Jacob today demanded immediate steps to allay concerns of people in the Mullaperiyar dam issue.
Talking to newspersons here, he said immediate steps should be taken to reduce the water level and on a long-term basis to construct a new dam, as it was a matter concerning the people of the State.
Referring to the demand for an agreement to share the Neyyar water, he contended that if an agreement in that regard was made, it would be a historic blunder. In the wake of the Tamil Nadu Government's adamant stance against renewing the Parambikulam-Aaliyar agreement, there was no need to provide water from Neyyar to them, he alleged.
Mr Jacob criticised the State Government for not taking steps to procure raw coconut and demanded immediate steps to implement it.
Referring to the Changanacherry campus violence related incident in which a police official was killed, he alleged that police was over-zealous in identifying and declaring the accused.
The KC(J) leader also demanded an inquiry by a central agency to identify the real culprits.
