Kochi, Oct 31 (UNI) In its efforts to revitalise the domestic market, the Coir Board has tied up with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to market coir and related products through its outlets in Kerala.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the programme, Coir Board Chairman A C Jose said ''instead of solely depending on export trade, the coir industry could thrive if the domestic market was revitalised...If we are able to supply and market coir products in every village in the State, the industry will record an impressive growth in the future.'' As per the agreement, identified IOC retail outlets would be appointed as franchisees of the Board, he said.

Mr Jose said both the parties would jointly review and evaluate the performance of the scheme every six months and decide on the future policies.

Speaking at the function, IOC State head B Ashok said he was confident of the coir products getting good acceptance by both the urban and rural populace. The programme would be extended to other States in due course, he added.
