Philippines seeks 2.36 mln T coal for power plants
MANILA, Oct 30 (Reuters) State-owned National Power Corp, the largest power producer in the Philippines, has issued tenders for 2.36 million tonnes of coal to run its three remaining coal-fired plants in 2008, company officials said on Tuesday.
In addition, they said, the Masinloc and Calaca plants, sold to private investors this year, will need 1.67 million tonnes of coal.
Juan Carlos Guadarrama, a senior Napocor official, said tenders were issued on Friday for 2.36 million tonnes of coal to run the Sual, Pagbilao and Naga-Cebu plants next year.
The tenders - divided into three batches - are for 20 lots of 65,000-tonne coal cargoes into the Sual plant with an approved budget of 1.09 billion pesos ( million) and 14 lots of 65,000 tonne coal cargoes to the Pagbilao plant at a budget of 980 million pesos.
A tender notice on Napocor's Web site also showed the power firm is seeking to import 150,000 tonnes of coal for its Naga-Cebu plant with an approved budget of 711 million pesos.
An additional 200,000 tonnes of coal for Naga-Cebu will be sourced domestically, Guadarrama said.
No delivery period was specified.
The pre-bid conference is on Nov. 12 and the bid opening date is on Nov. 27 for the first batch, Nov. 28 for the second batch and Nov. 29 for the third batch.
Guadarrama said the government was expected to turn over the 600-MW Masinloc coal-fired plant to Singapore's AES Transpower Pte Ltd before the end of the year, and the 600-MW Calaca plant to Suez Tractebel, a unit of France's Suez Tractebel early next year.
The two plants were among the dozens of power assets being sold by the government to raise between - billion as part of a wider state sector reform.
