J&K Govt announces relief for Talwara migrants

Jammu, Oct 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government today announced relief for the Talwara migrants after a detailed discussion between Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Sudhanshu Pandey and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) Chairman Prof Bhim Singh, sources said.

The State Government announced immediate relief to the Jammu migrants including Talwara migrants as per commitment made by the government in their affidavit of December 3, 2004, which was submitted in the Supreme Court.

Sources told UNI ''The relief included Rs 400 per person per month, subject to maximum of Rs 1600 per family. Nine-kg of flour, two-kg of rice and 10-litre of kerosene per family per month.'' The relief would be paid with effect from October 1, 2007 by the Relief Commissioner (Migrants) and the arrears from April 1, 2004, paid within a period of one month.

Meanwhile, the JKNPP Chairman Prof Bhim Singh in a statement issued today has thanked the state government for conceding the demands of Talwara migrants after the 90-day long struggle.
