TN bandh: SC issues contempt notices to MK, Baalu

New Delhi, Oct 29: The Supreme Court today issued contempt notices to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Union Minister T R Baalu, state Chief Secretary L K Tripathi, among others, for defying the apex court's directive of not to go ahead with the October 1 state bandh call given by the DMK for speedy completion of the Sethusamudram project.

A bench comprising Justice B N Agarwal and Justice P P Naolekar also issued notices to the state Transport Minister and the DGP but exempted all the VIPs from a personal appearance in the court.

Today's notices were issued on a petition filed by the AIADMK headed by former state chief minister J Jayalalithaa seeking prosecution of all the respondents for deliberately and intentionally defying the apex court order dated September 30 staying the Tamil Nadu bandh.
