Bhubaneswar, Oct 29 (UNI) The Orissa unit of the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) today appealed to the people to launch a mass movement against the anti-farmers and anti-youth policy of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD-BJP alliance government.
In a resolution passed in the steering committee of the party, held under the Chairmanship of Bijoy Mohapatra, the party criticised the government for neglecting the agriculture as well as the farmers.
The party alleged that thousands of farmers were migrating to other states in search of work and were being tortured since agriculture, the main stay of the economy of the state was adversely affected with the government according priority to big industries.
The quantity of farmland had been decreased by 20 per cent after the government provided water free of cost and land to big industrial houses, the party alleged.
The NCP, also described as unfortunate, the government's decision to waive a loan of more than Rs 200 crore to a business house, while issuing seizure notice against small farmers.
The party extended its support to farmers' movement in different parts of the state.
In another resolution, the steering committee of the party strongly condemned the government's failure to undertake reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the areas hit by the super cyclone eight years back. The committee expressed grief for people, who lost their lives in the super cyclone on this day, eight years back and observed a two-minute silence in their memory.
