Four cops injured in clash with workers of garment unit

Silvasa (Union Territory), Oct 29 (UNI) Four cops, including an inspector of Silvasa Police have sustained minor injuries while controlling the agitating workers of a garment division of the Alok Group Industries over the 'Diwali Bonus' issue here today.

According to police sources here, the incident took place at around 1430 hrs when the talks between Alok Industries' management and employees failed over the 'Diwali Bonus' issue following which a strong mob of 4,000 workers went on berserk in the premises of the company.

Police rushed to the spot and lobbed 20 rounds of tear-gas shells to control the rioting workers, in the process four cops, including inspector R K Gavati, sustained minor injuries.

The injured policemen were treated as an outdoor patients at the Civil Hospital at Silvasa.

Though no arrest has been made so far, police have registered a case of rioting against the mob.
