Cop killed in campus clash laid to rest

Kottayam, Oct 29 (UNI) The mortal remains of campus violence victim Assistant Sub Inspector M C Elias was laid to rest at the Nalunnakkal St Adai's Jacobite Church with official honours today.

Braving heavy downpour, thousands paid their tributes to the departed police officer.

Catholicos Baselios Thomas I was the main celebrant at the funeral rites.

The officer attached to the Changanassery police station was killed on October 26, while trying to avert a showdown between the the SFI and ABVP activists at NSS Hindu College near here.

Meanwhile, hundreds of BJP activists participated in a march to SP office in protest against the arrest of the 'innocent' ABVP-RSS activists in connection with the death of the ASI. They demanded arrest of the 'real' culprits.

Addressing the march, 'Hindu Aikya Vedi' Kerala unit General Secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan alleged that the state government was responsible for the death of the ASI. He demanded a CBI probe to look into the officer's deeath.
