Codava activists to stage 'Sathyagraha' in New Delhi

Bangalore, Oct 29 (UNI) Demanding ethno linguistic tribal status for Codavas in Karnataka, the Codava National Council, which was spear heading the agitation for the creation of separate Autonomous Region Council in Karnataka will stage demonstration in New Delhi on November first, the State Reorganisation Day.

In a press release here today, Mr N U Nachappa Codava, Secretary General Codava National Council said that in support of their charter of demands including creation of separate Codava Regional Council on the lines of Darjeeling Ghoorkha Hill Council.'Sathyagraha' was planned to hold at Jantar Mantar.

A memorandum seeking immediate implementation of their demands also would be submitted to Indian President Pratibha Patil.

Stating that Codava language was an ancient, rich and living spoken language, should be included in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution Codavas also demand among other things conferring ethno linguistic tribal status under article 340 and 342 of the constitution.
