CEO asks political parties to follow code of conduct

Shimla, Oct 29 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda today called upon all political parties and candidates to follow the model code of conduct in the run up to assembly elections in the state.

Stating the do's and dont's of the model code of conduct, Ms Nanda said the Election Commission had issued some guidelines for the candidates and political parties to follow.

The CEO said public places like grounds, helipads, rest houses would be available impartially to all party' candidates for holding election meetings. The right of every individual for peaceful and undisturbed home life should be fully safeguarded during the election, she added.

Local police authorities should be fully informed of the venue and time of the proposed meetings well in time and all necessary permissions should be taken, she said.

Ms Nanda said thepermission must be obtained for the use of loudspeakers or any other such facilities for the proposed meetings.

She said, the time and place of any procession and, the route to be followed before it terminates should be settled in advance and permission must be obtained from police authorities.

Ms Nanda said cooperation should be extended to all election officials to ensure peaceful polls. All workers must display badges or identity cards.
