Unter trial escapes from police custody

Sultanpur, Oct 27 (UNI) An under-trial has escaped from police custody in Kudebhar area of this district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (east) Santosh Kumar Singh today said, ''Santosh Gupta alias Kittu hoodwinked the police and jumped from the vehicle late yesterday, when he was being taken for a court hearing to Faizabad from Varanasi.'' Santosh is accused of killing another criminal Dhannu Tripathi in 2005.

Meanwhile, five policemen have been booked for laxity.

A hunt to nab the absconding accused has been launched.
