Lucknow, Oct 27 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) today said the Congress led-United Progressive Alliance UPA) government at the Centre, in trouble after the Left parties desisted from the Nuclear deal, was now trying to snare the SP.

''The Congress has even made a proposal before us...but, SP will not become the puppet in its hands,'' SP general secretary Amar Singh claimed at a press meet in the state capital this evening.

''When the Left was with Congress, it used to treat SP as an 'untouchable' creature. Now, the troublesome party is tempting us, when the Left has left it astray. We are with the Left and would continue to be,'' Mr Singh added.

Reproaching the CBI for working as Congress ''puppet'', he accused it of functioning as ''the Congress Bureau of Investigation.'' The CBI gave clean chits to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Suren, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav at behest of the Congress. However, it is hatching a conspiracy to trap SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his kin in the fake disproportionate assets cases, Mr Singh charged.

He alleged ''on request of the Congress, UP Governor T V Rajeswar also did not give permission to prosecute Mayawati in the multi crore Taj Heritage Corridor (THC) case. The Congress wanted to gain support of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the presidential polls.'' The Congress is ''power hungry''. The party can go to any extent for it. It also helped Shibu Suren, who was an accused in a murder case, the SP leader said.
