I'd love to be reborn in Mah and serve Music again: Khayyam

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Music Maestro of yesetryears Khayyam has said he would love to be reborn in Maharashtra and serve music again in the next incarnation.

Khayyam, who recieved the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar award, presented by the Maharashtra Government, from Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, here last evening, said, ''If reincarnated, I would love to be born in Maharashtra and serve the music again in the next incarnation.'' The Home Minister, appreciating the decision of the Maharashtra Government to present the award to Khayyam, said, '' A true music is a medium to reach to the Almighty and Khayyam's compositions make us feel nearer to the God.'' Speaking on the occasion an emotional Khayyam narrated his experiences with music compositions and ups and downs in his life.

''In this age of pop, rap and remix music, Khayyamji's music is the need of the hour and he should start his third innings,'' Maharastra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said.

Reacting to Mr Deshmukh's 'appeal', Khayyam said he is ready to start his new innings.

Mr Deshmukh said Hindi cinema made Hindi language popular the world over.

Khayyam is the 16th recipient of the award, given every year by the Maharashtra Government.

The function, which saw participation from Maharashtra ministers Ashok Chavan and Rana Jagjit Sinh Patil as well as Khayyam's wife Jagjit Kaur, was organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Mumbai in association with the Maharashtra information centre in New Delhi.
