Enact law to protect heritage sites, buildings: INTACH
Madurai, Oct 27 (UNI) The Centre should enact a Law to protect heritage sites and buildings and prevent them from 'mindless destruction', according to a senior official of Indian National Trust and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).
Inaugurating the Madurai Chapter of INTACH here today, INTACH Head Maj Gen L K Gupta said steps should be taken to create awareness to protect the heritage sites and buildings.
About 800 buildings were protected and renovated by the INTACH, he said.
The government officials, including secretaries of the Culture and Tourism Departments, and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) were now offering more help to protect the heritage sites, he added.
