Committee on medicos rural posting constituted: Anbumani

Chennai, Oct 27 (UNI) A committee, headed by Dr Sambasivam, had been constituted to go into the issue of compulsory rural posting for medicos, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said today.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, he said the committee had been constituted to look into the objections and to elicit the view of students, doctors and people.

''The Centre will take further action on the issue after the committee submitted its recommendations, he added.

Alleging that some vested interests were instigating students to protest against compulsory rural postings for their selfish gains, Dr Anbumani said the students should take it as a service to the rural people.

Though the government had modernised rural health infrastructure, there was scarcity of doctors who were unwilling to serve in the rural areas. Keeping this in mind the Centre favoured compulsory rural posting for medicos, he added.
