cases
in
India
in
the
year
2006-07.
According to a media release issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 548 cases were detected in Uttar Pradesh, 61 in Bihar, 19 in Haryana, one each in Chandigarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan, four in Gujarat, eight in Punjab, two in Assam, 13 in Uttarakhand, three in Madhya Pradesh and five in Maharashtra, out of which three were detected in Mumbai.
Health officials from the Corporation said, ''We have taken aggressive steps to keep polio at bay and see to it that such cases does not occur.'' Till October 19 this year, 326 polio cases were detected in India, out of which 251 were in Uttar Pradesh, 56 in Bihar, five in Andhra Pradesh, four in Uttarakhand, three in Haryana, one each in Gujarat, Delhi and Orissa and two each in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
