DD Bangalore to organise 'Smarananjali' to pay homage to Soldiers

Bangalore, Oct 26(UNI) Doordarshan Bangalore Kendra has organised 'Smarananjali'-a cultural programme to pay homage to Karnataka soldiers killed while defending the country and fighting with terrorists during the last two years, Kendra Director Mahesh Joshi said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that the four-hour programme to be held on October 28 was planned to pay lyrical tribute to those departed souls with patriotic songs sung by eminent singers of Karnataka.

The programme would be held in coordination with Department of Sainik Welfare and resettlement and Bangalore University.

He said that during the last two years 23 soldiers, including Col Vasant Kumar, who was accorded Ashoka Chakra posthumously had sacrificed their lives in defending the country and fighting against terrorists.

Dr Joshi said that the programme would be telecast live on DD-1 (Karnataka Regional Channel and DD-Chandana. The programme would also be available on Email.

Leading artists performing in the 'Smaranjali' includes Playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy, Top Grade Air Artists Dr L Subramaniam, Chandrika Gururaj and Party (Patriotic Songs), Maya Rao and Madhu Nataraj-Choreographers (Contemporary dance ballet-Saare Jahah Se Accha), Vyjayanthi Kashi (Dance Drama-Homage to soldiers), Kodava warrior (Dance for film song Madikeri Sepay). Besides renowned artist B K S Varma will paint on the spot during the programme.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur would be the Chief Guest for the programme in which other dignitaries like NHRC Member Justice Shivraj V Patil, Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Prof B K Chandrasekhar, Assembly Speaker Krishna, BJP National General Secretary Ananthkumar, MP, Editors and Heads of some of the local leading news papers.
