Rizwanur's family challenges State-ordered judicial inquiry report

Kolkata, Oct 25 (UNI) Rizwanur Rahman's family today filed a writ petition before the Calcutta High Court challenging the judicial inquiry, ordered by the State Government, into the ''unnatural death'' case.

The petition was filed by Rizwanur's brother Rukbanur and mother Keshawar.

The State Government had ordered a judicial inquiry in wake of the wide-spread controversy over the death of the 29-year-old Muslim youth, who married a Hindu girl over a month ago.

Retired Judge Alok Chakroborty had been appointed Chairman of the Judicial Commission. In the petition, Rukbanur said, ''The name of the Commission's chairman was announced before its notification, which is considered illegal.'' The petitioner also claimed that senior IPS officers had been connected with Rizwanur's death and it was a must for the investigator to interrogate such officials in order to crack the case.

However, a judicial commission is not empowered to call on a IPS officer for interrogation.

The petitioner also prayed before the court for an order for the cancellation of the judicial commission.
