No need for records if employees number 40 or less: Cabinet

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) The government today decided to exempt establishments with 40 workers or less from the need for submitting returns and maintaining registers under labour laws.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting by approving a proposal for making necessary amendments to Labour Laws (Exemption from Furnishing Returns and Maintaining Registers by Certain Establishments) Amendment and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2005, pending in Rajya Sabha.

The newly-amended Bill would be called Labour Laws (Exemption from Furnishing Returns and Maintaining Registers by Certain Establishments) (Amendment) Bill, 2007, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

The simplified forms to be introduced by these amendments would give relief to employers of establishments employing upto 40 workers in maintaining registers and submitting returns under various labour laws, he said.
