Central team arrives to assess Orissa flood damage

Bhubaneswar,Oct 25 (UNI) A nine- member central team, headed by Joint Secretary, Home, Navin Verma, today arrived here to assess the damages caused by floods.

On their arrival the team was divided into three groups and they left for the five flood affected districts-Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara to assess the damage.

Official sources said the team would return to Bhubaneswar on October 27 and leave for New Delhi the same evening after a meeting with the state government officials including the Chief Secretary here.

The state government had sought an assistance of Rs 1093.53 crore for undertaking various reconstruction and renovation work, crop loss and to provide ex-gratia to the next kin of the victims who died in flood related incidents during August and September.

Earlier, the government had sought a central assistance of Rs 306 crore for the loss suffered in the flood during July.
