Admn committed to welfare of handloom weavers: Rangasamy

Puducherry, Oct 25 (UNI) The Puducherry administration was committed to protect the interests of the handloom weavers in the Union Territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.

Inaugurating the Tamil Nadu Handloom Exhibition here, he said the the Puducherry Administration was introducing welfare schemes for the handloom weavers in the Union Territory on the lines of Tamil Nadu.

A newly designed, light weight 'silk sari', was introduced in the exhibition at a lower price, .

Tamil Nadu Handloom Minister Raja, who was also present, said 200 varieties of the newly designed 'silk sari' were put up for sale in the exhibition. The price ranged from Rs 2,500 to Rs 25,000.

A sale of Rs 20 lakh was expected at the exhibition, he added.
