A minor and a handicapped raped in Sikkim

Gangtok, Oct 25 (UNI): Two persons have been arrested on alleged rape charges on a 7-year-old girl and a 26-year-old physically disabled woman respectively from Sikkim's east district.

Thirty-year-old Santosh Kumar Nirola from Pakyong, East Sikkim, was arrested yesterday following rape charges lodged by the handicapped woman. The victim had been raped by the accused on October 23 and complaint had been registered with Pakyong police station yesterday.

Being unable to speak properly, the handicapped victim could not shout for help when the accused sexually assaulted her, said the police. Both the victim and accused have been fowarded to STNM hospital for medical tests.

Meanwhile, another person from Ranipool, lower Gangtok, was arrested yesterday by the police after an alleged rape on a seven year old girl. According to victim's father, one Dilip Biswakarma had raped the girl on October 22. The family came to known about it the following day prompting them to lodge a complaint at Ranipool police station. The accused in his mid 30s was working as a servant with the victim's family.
