175th anniversary of HP Barnes Court celebrated

Shimla, Oct 25 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today inaugurated a ceremony to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Barnes Court, official residence of the Governor, here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kokje said, "This historic building bears testimony to many historical events. Signing of 'Shimla Agreement' between India and Pakistan was one of them." "In Indian mythology, buildings have a special significance over the years, the original architecture of this building has been maintained and only minor additions have been made in the structure," he said.

"This historic building is one of the beautiful heritage buildings of the town. Barnes Court is European in style but its architecture is purely hilly." He stressed upon the need to preserve such historical and heritage buildings for posterity.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said, "Barnes Court is an integral part of the rich cultural and old architectural heritage." Chief Minister congratulated the Governor for celebrating the 175th anniversary of this building.

Earlier, the Governor released a Souvenir and Folder on Barnes Court besides a Postal Special Cover to mark the occasion.
